Pressures, financial and otherwise, are growing on businesses to reduce their environmental impact and an Environmental Management System (EMS) provides a company with a framework for managing environmental responsibilities efficiently and in a way that is integrated into your overall operations. As an BSI ACP member, Bakers Waste Services have demonstrated to the BSI their experience and expertise with respect to providing the training necessary for developing such an environmental management system.

With ISO 14001 environmental management systems training, you can identify aspects of your business that impact on the environment and understand those environmental laws that are relevant to your situation. The next step in the training is to produce objectives for improvement and a management programme to achieve them, with regular reviews for continual improvement. With our training, your organisation will then be well placed to ensure compliance and also improve operational efficiencies.

Landfill Taxes to Rise

Landfill taxes are set to rise by £8 per tonne in April 2009. This will be a significant charge on all businesses that generate even moderate amounts of waste.

However, Bakers Waste Services new waste recycling facility at Wharf Way, Glen Parva, means that more waste can be recycled, leading to less waste ending up in landfill. In turn, this means that Bakers Waste Services can help businesses save money.

Mr Paul Baker, Managing Director of Bakers Waste Services, said: "Landfill taxes are going to rise in April by £8 per tonne, which are huge increases. We've got an opportunity to offer small businesses cost savings in this area."

If you want to see how Bakers Waste Services can save your company money in 2009, please contact Paul on 0370 350 6 350 or complete our simple online waste collection quote form (if you do it before 31/1/09 you have a chance to win a VIP day out at LCFC).

Jobs Boost

Bakers Waste Services plans to create more than 20 jobs after a bumper year in which turnover soared by £1 million.

Bakers Waste Services has just invested £250,000 in moving from its former base in Morris Road, Leicester, to Wharf Way, in Glen Parva. Managing director Paul Baker, says that the bigger site will help them cope with extra work after seeing the number of customers on its books soar from 1,600 to 2,000 in a year.

The firm is now one of the largest independent waste collection firms in Leicestershire and almost all of its customers are in the county.

High-profile customers include Leicester City and Leicester Tigers, and, in recent months, they have won contracts to dispose waste for Aggregate Industries in Bardon and Mallory Park racing circuit.

Paul Baker said the firm's turnover has increased 60 per cent from about £1.6 million in 2007. He said:

"We're growing very well. It has been a very good year for us and we've seen our turnover grow significantly. In the next three years we plan to triple this. We employed 19 people before moving to the new site but we'll have 24 staff early in the new year, increasing to nearly 50 by the end of 2009. We will need the extra people for the amount of work we are taking on."

The firm also collects rubbish from Leicestershire County Cricket Club and a number of colleges.

The new site includes equipment which will allow the firm to sort recyclable waste, such as plastic and wood, from rubbish which would otherwise make it to landfill.

Mr Baker said: "Landfill taxes are going to rise in April by £8 per tonne, which are huge increases. We've got an opportunity to offer small businesses cost savings in this area.

"People are more environmentally aware now and want to do what they can to recycle."

By working with Bakers, Leicester City is set to be the first football club in the country to get an ISO 4001 standard from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, which recognises their efforts to reduce their impact on the environment.

LCFC Recycle

Leicester City Football Club now operate a commingled collection for recycling waste.

Leicester City supporters will now be able to place all cardboard, paper, plastic and cans into one bin. The only waste going for landfill that is produced in the concourses will be food waste, but watch this space because they are now looking at using Bakers Waste Services' composting system. Come on you Blues!

Stoneflair improves recycling systems

Stoneflair, a division of Aggregate Industries, joins Bakers Waste Services to improve their recycling systems. Stoneflair will now be recycling all the waste produced on site. This includes wood, card, paper, aerosols, Weee waste and fluorescent tubes.

Emerson Process Management

Emerson Process Management come on board with Bakers Waste Services to enhance their already fantastic recycling system from 01.01.09. Emersons already have a very impressive recycling system in place but, with the help of Bakers Waste Services, are aiming even higher with batteries, Weee waste, plastic and cans being added to their recycling portfolio.
