Everyday Eco- Must Do Checklist

Here at Bakers Waste we have constructed an everyday Eco must do checklist, on this page you will find easy tips and tricks to help you become an Eco- warrior! From reusable plastic bottles to switching to bar soap, there are many easy ways you can begin your Eco journey. With all the negativity in the media about the planet and what we can do more, when it comes to becoming more Eco- friendly doesn’t have to be costly or time consuming.

1. Don’t waste food!

One of the easiest ways to save the planet is by not wasting food. You can even turn your leftovers into meals for the next day or the rest of the week. If you’re not fully inspired by the idea of reusing left over food to make Eco- meals then you can turn the left overs into a compost pile in your garden.

2. Don’t use or cut down on single use plastic.

Have you ever thought about reusing your plastic soft drink bottle as a water bottle? You could even purchase a reusable water bottle from a store, you can find them in multiple sizes, colours and designs and they often range in prices from £2-£10. There are online shops where you can purchase reusable water bottles which are made from recycled plastic bottles.

3. Cycle/ walk/ use public transport.

Another great way that helps the environment is to walk or cycle to your shops, friends or family’s house or even to work. Walking or cycling short distances is healthier for you and for the planet. You could even use public transport to get to your destination, this cuts down on emissions and saves you fuel in your car.

4. Reusable hot drink cup.

Bring your own hot drink to work in a reusable hot drink cup instead of stopping off at a coffee shop. Coffee cups are not recyclable and often can be poor quality. In some coffee shops by bringing your own coffee cup you can receive a discount for your drink or even receive a free drink.

5. Loose tea and a tea infuser.

Tea bags are not currently bio-degradable, by using loose tea leaves with a tea infuser you will never have to use or throw away another teabag again. Loose tea leaves can easily be found online or in shops, alongside that you should be able to find a tea infuser where the tea leaves can be placed inside.

6. Gardening/ grow your own fruit and veg.

Growing your own fruit and veg can save you money, cut down on travel emissions and can be a lot healthier for you compared to ones you buy in supermarkets which can be sprayed with chemicals to maintain freshness.

7. Wrapping gifts.

Wrap gifts in fabric and tie with ribbon; both are reusable and prettier than paper and sticky-tape. This is a great way to avoid using wrapping paper and sticky tape, which once they are done with are thrown away and end up in landfill. You could even use newspaper and ribbon for a retro look.

8. Buy compact fluorescent light bulbs.

They last eight times as long and use a fraction of the energy. By purchasing longer lasting light bulbs you will save money on your electric bill and save energy at the same time.

9. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

All of these essentials come in plastic bottles, this can be avoided by buying shampoo, conditioner and body wash in a bar form. In bar form they will last 3x times longer than in a bottle and take up less space. You can purchase cruelty free options from vegan shops online or at your local high-street.
