New College Leicester Partnership: Encourage Kids to be Healthy
Bakers Waste Services Ltd is proud to be working alongside New College Leicester; giving new life to refurbished free bikes in an aim to encourage kids to be healthy.
New College Leicester in partnership with Bakers Waste and HMP Stocken are delighted to be launching their FREECYCLE initiative which will give young people in the community the opportunity to have access to a refurbished bicycle. Through their Health & Wellbeing strategy and their Sport and Physical Activity Strategy, New College Leicester is focusing on encouraging more young people to be physically active in and out of the school day.
The school opened its brand new 1km Closed Road Cycle Circuit in July 2017 which has proved an extremely popular facility both for students in the day and for the local community in the evenings, weekends and school holidays. However, the school quickly realised that not all young people have access to bicycles and started to explore ways in which this might be made possible. Thanks to an excellent collaboration with HMP Stocken who refurbish the bikes and Bakers Waste who provide transportation, it has been a very successful partnership.
Wayne Allsopp, the College Business Development Manager said
This is a great initiative that encompasses what New College Leicester is all about. We are working with our partners across the city to ensure this initiative successfully reaches those young people most in need. The quality of the refurbished bikes is outstanding and we are extremely grateful to both HMP Stocken and Bakers Waste for being so supportive of our young people in our Leicester community”.
Paul Baker, Director, Bakers Waste commented
“It is fantastic to see a community coming together to help each other and find a solution that works for everybody. The Bakers Waste team and I are extremely proud to be a part of this project and it’s particularly pleasing to see the good work at Stocken Prison and the bikes they refurbish assist New College Leicester in reigniting a healthy mentality for generations to come.”
