Bakers Waste Services Ltd makes ‘Race to Zero’ pledge; 50% carbon emissions reduction by 2030 and to reach ‘net zero’ by 2050.
Bakers Waste are proud to join over 3,300 (and counting!) UK businesses in pledging our commitment to race towards becoming net zero in under thirty years. We are excited to continue our journey towards pioneering environmental changes both locally and nationally, in aid of establishing a sustainable business community. In time, we hope this campaign becomes one of many vehicles on the road to creating an environmental legacy for future generations. Together for our planet.
‘Race to Zero’ is a global campaign which aims to “rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, and investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth”.
Mobilising a coalition of net zero initiatives across the globe; 1049 cities, 67 regions, 5235 businesses (and counting…), 441 investors, and 1039 higher education institutions. Bakers Waste are joining UK Business Climate Hub’s net zero journey.
Housing two materials recovery facilities, and a specialised recycling facility in Desford, Leicester dedicated to turning waste into resources, this campaign sits close to our hearts here at Bakers. Coinciding with our 20-year Anniversary and the turn of a new era where we no longer see waste as waste, and as a resource, an opportunity. – More information on our ‘new era’ to be announced soon.
We have taken the first step in supporting ‘Race to Zero’ by pledging our commitment, it won’t stop there; we will live the campaign’s cause through educating our community, finding new and innovative ways to swap waste for resources, and continuing to grow and share our own environmental solutions. Full details of how we will achieve net zero by 2050 will be included within our Environmental Policy as part of our ISO14001 certificate.
General Manager – Commercial & Sustainability, Richard Jeffery, said: “We are thrilled to publicly pledge our commitment to ‘Race to Zero’ and begin working towards net zero by 2050. Working within a circular economy is at the core of Bakers’ purpose and vision. We are excited to support our customers, team, suppliers, community, and the next generation in reaching a greener future.”
Managing Director, Paul Baker, said: “To have the opportunity to help reduce the environmental impact of the thousands of customers we support with consultancy services everyday makes me feel immensely proud.
“I couldn’t have imagined quite how impactful Bakers could be twenty years ago, when we had one bin truck and ten bins, and we owe it all to our fantastic, passionate team. Pledging our commitment to ‘Race to Zero’ perfectly optimises everything we will be striving to do over the next twenty years and beyond. We can’t wait to have you along for the journey”.
In pledging, Bakers Waste agrees to halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030, achieve net zero emissions before 2050, and disclose our progress on a yearly basis.
